Five-Dimensional Extensions of the Standard Model: Theoretical Consistency and Experimental Constraints — •Alexander Mück1, Apostolos Pilaftsis2, and Reinhold Rückl11Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik, Universität Würzburg, Am Hubland, 97074 Würzburg — 2Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Manchester, Manchester M13 9PL

In the context of large (TeV-size) extra dimensions, we discuss different Standard Model extensions. While matter fields are confined to a four-dimensional subspace, the usual Minkowski space, some of the gauge and Higgs bosons can propagate in one additional spatial dimension. After compactification, an effective 4D theory is obtained, which comprises towers of Kaluza-Klein modes in addition to the Standard Model fields. For the various models, we analyze Ward identities as a consistency check and find that the gauge symmetry is preserved by a complex interplay of the Kaluza-Klein modes. In a multiparameter-fit, the 5D Standard Model is also confronted with experiment. Combining LEP and the latest LEP2 data, we derive bounds on the compactification scale and investigate the correlations of the compactification scale with the mass of the SM Higgs bosons.
