Performace of the TRD readout for the AMS-02 experiment — •C.H. Chung — I. Physikalisches Institut B, RWTH, D-52056, Aachen, Germany — CHEP, Kyungpook National University, 702-701 Daegu, South Korea

The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer(AMS-02) is a particle physics experiment to be installed on the International Space Station(ISS) for at least three consecutive years. The Transition Radiation Detector(TRD) is one of the major subdetectors and designed to separate e± from p± background with a rejection better than 10−2 up to 300 GeV. The TRD consists of 20 layers of 328 straw modules with a total 5248 readout channels. All channels can be read out in 78µs followed by the first data reduction level. The electronic system comprises of front-end, data reduction, high voltage generator, slow control and several power supply units. To fulfill the stringent restrictions in space the electronic system is designed and qualified for low power consumption, double redundancy, light weight and an operating range of -35 to 50C in vacuum. We will report on the performance of the readout system optimized for this spaceborn experiment. The results are based on beamtests, cosmics and a series of space qualification tests for use in space.
