One of the key tasks of heavy flavour physics analyses at CDF is the identification of b-mesons, their decay products and their flavour in a busy hadronic environement. Observables traditionally used to identify b decay products are the impact parameter and the rapidity of the particles. Other observables related to single tracks (like particle ID, probability to fit a secondary vertex) and whole jets contain additional information. Their combination with neural network techniques helps to improve identification efficiency and purity.

Similar techniques can also be used to optimise b-flavour tagging, i.e. to determine whether a b-jet originates from a b quark or b antiquark.

This talk will show how the use of neural network can help to identify b decay products and demonstrate the impact on b-flavour tagging.
