Magnetotransport measurements under pressure on the organic superconductor κ-(d8−BEDT-TTF)2Cu(SCN)2 with Helium as a pressure medium are compared to other measurements of the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, with the same pressure medium as well as magnetotransport measurements using other quasi-hydrostatic pressure media. The exact pressure dependence of the physical properties in κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(SCN)2 depends on the pressure medium used, indicating that small degrees of non-hydrostaticity can strongly affect the results. A strong correlation between Tc and the quasi 2-dimensional carrier density in κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu(SCN)2 is seen, when comparing measurements of Tc to Fermi surface parameters. The suppression of Tc with pressure can be correlated to the transfer of carriers from the quasi 1-dimensional to the quasi 2-dimensional Fermi surface sections, thus revealing a mechanism reminiscent of Cuprate superconductors, where pressure is known to transfer carriers from the insulating charge reservoir layers into the conducting cuprate sheets.
