We describe the plane waves in the general quadratic metric-affine theory of gravity (MAG) which represent the class of exact solutions of the MAG field equations. Unlike most of the known MAG solutions, the torsion and the nonmetricity fields do not belong to the triplet ansatz of 1-forms.
