QED–corrections to laser-dressed atomic multilevel systems — •J. Evers, U. D. Jentschura, and C. H. Keitel — Max–Planck–Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg

The treatment of QED–effects in dynamical processes requires a thorough analysis of several relativistic and field-theoretic effects, which all contribute to the atomic population dynamics and to the quasi-energies of the laser-dressed states. Among these, there are relativistic and radiative corrections to the transition dipole moment, Bloch–Siegert shifts, non-resonant corrections, and corrections to the so-called secular approximation, as well as field-configuration dependent corrections [1]. In multilevel systems, further effects have to be considered. We show that the intricacies due to the inclusion of additional atomic states to the analysis are no principle obstacle for a high-precision treatment of the problem [2].
