Hard X-ray polarimetry - studies of the K-REC transition into highly charged ions — •Stanislav Tashenov, Thomas Stoehlker, Alexander Gumberidze, Andreas Orsic-Muthig, Regina Reuschl, Darek Banas, and Uwe Spillmann — Atomic Physics, GSI, Plankstrasse 1, 64291 Darmstadt

For bare uranium ions a polarization study for recombination transitions was performed at the jet-target of the storage ring ESR, GSI. For this purpose a 4x4 planar germanium pixel detector with a pixel size of 7x7 mm has been used. In the experiment the degree of the photon polarization was obtained by analyzing Compton scattering inside the detector. It will be shown that the RR radiation is found to be strongly linearly polarized (up to 80%) within the scattering plane and that the degree of polarization depends markedly on the beam energy and the observation angle. The results will also be discussed in the context of recently performed relativistic calculations.
