Cobined optical and magnetic trap on an atom chip — •Daniel Gallego Garcia, Elmar Haller, Sebastian Hofferberth, Igor Lesanovsky, Stephan Wildermuth, Mauritz Andersson, Peter Krüger, and Jörg Schmiedmayer — Universität Heidelberg, Physikalisches Institut, Philosophenweg 12, 69120 Heidelberg

We present a combination of an optical and a magnetic trap on an atom chip. In addition to a wire based magnetic trap we use an optical trap that is configured as a near resonant red detuned dipol trap. This introduces an additional degree of freedom for the atom manipulation on the chip. The status of first experiments in various geometries will be presented. The possible configurations include a standing wave pattern created by the reflection from the chip surface. Another approach is to form a light sheet for transverse confinement where micro-manipulation potentials are provided by magnetic and eletric structures on the (near) chip.
