In order to achieve femtosecond laser pulse control of molecular systems, it has become of interest to consider an optical signal as an observable to be maximized, see e.g. [1,2]. For the case of a two-color pump-probe scheme we present a formulation of the optimal control theory. This approach allows to calculate the pump-pulse shape which sets the system in such a state that leads to a maximization of the probe-pulse absorption signal [3]. The application of this method is demonstrated using an NaK molecule as a model system. Considering the three lowest Σ-levels, we study the outcome of the control yield in the dependence of different probe-pulse parameters like central frequency and pulse length. It turns out that e.g. depending on the central frequency the absorption signal has a maximum for a specific pulse length.
