Bose-Einstein Condensation in Canonical Ensembles — •Konstantin Glaum1 and Axel Pelster21Institut für Theore-
tische Physik, Freie Universität Berlin, Berlin, Germany — 2Fachbereich Physik, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany

We set up a recursion relation for the partition function of a finite number of bosons in different trap configurations. This leads to explicit formulas for the specific heat and the number of particles in the ground state defining the condensate. All curves have the correct small T-
behavior and approach their thermodynamic limits uniformly for all temperatures. This is in contrast to an earlier version of the theory in Feynman’s textbook on Statistical Mechanics, which ignored the special role of the ground state.
