A solid state single photon source with color centers in diamond — •Chunlang Wang1, Harald Weinfurter1, and Jan Meijer21Sektion Physik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany — 2Experimentalphysik III, Ruhr-Universität-Bochum, Germany

Although there are many implementations of single photon sources, their performance is still not satisfactory for the use in quantum cryptography. One of the most promising candidates is the NV (nitrogen-vacancy) center in diamond, which has already shown advantages compared to attenuated laser pulses in a quantum cryptography experiment. But the performance of a single NV center is limited by its broad spectrum and relatively long photoluminescence lifetime. To avoid those shortages we investigated the possibility to use other color centers in diamond als single photon sources. We employ ion implantation to produce color centers in diamond. Solid immersion lenses were used to improve the collection efficiency of the fluorescence light. We report results on the fluorescence of single SiV (silicon-vacancy) centers. In spite of their narrow spectrum, due to a shelving level the SiV centers are found unsuitable for practical generation of single photons. Furthermore we will report on first tests of a Xenon related center currently under investigation.
