Second-harmonic generation (SHG) was one of the first processes which were considered for squeezed light production. By now it has been proved an effective means of generating squeezed states for the fundamental as well as for the second harmonic field [1,2]. Compared with the optical parametric process, SHG squeezing can be demonstrated in a less complex experiment since only a single pump laser at the fundamental frequency and a single nonlinear cavity are required. However, experimentally demonstrated squeezing from SHG has been less strong compared to the squeezing from optical parametric oscillators or amplifiers. Noise in the pump laser and intra-cavity loss have been confirmed to be limiting factors in noise suppression. We present the analysis of an experiment that is based on a type I phase-matched SHG process and which should in principle provide more than 3dB of squeezing.
