Comparison of frequency stabilisation schemes for pulsed ring oscillators — •Markus Gregor, Martin Ostermeyer, Sebastian Bange und Ralf Menzel — Universität Potsdam, Institut für Physik, Am Neuen Palais 10, 14469 Potsdam

Frequency stabilisation of pulsed laser systems is relevant to a large number of applications in metrology. One of them being concentration measurements of trace gases in the atmosphere [1]. The frequency stabilisation of pulsed systems is known to be less accurate compared to cw-systems. This is owing to phase discontinuities that are caused by the Q-switching process and also by the pulsed pumping of the laser material.

The effectiveness of the Pound-Drever-Hall frequency stabilisation technique [2] is compared to a modified version of the Hansch-Couillaud technique [3] in this specific case of a pulsed laser oscillator.

The investigations deal with Nd:YAG oscillators with pulse energies of around 10 mJ and repetition rates ranging from 100-1000 Hz. The resulting frequency stabilised ring oscillator will be applied to a MOPA system to produce pulse energies in the Joule range.
