Beam-test of CMOS sensors with 6 GeV electrons at DESY — •Devis Contarato, for the DESY/Hamburg University MAPS Project — DESY Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron, Notkestraße 85, D-22607 Hamburg (Germany). Full author list at http://www-zeus.desy.de/~gregork/MAPS/

CMOS monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) have been proposed in the last years as a candidate for application in the vertex detector of the future International Linear Collider (ILC), due to their high-spatial resolution, small material budget and large scale availability at low cost. In this study a real-size (∼cm2) prototype, fabricated in a commercial 0.35 µm CMOS technology and featuring a 14 µm thin sensitive volume and a 17 µm pixel pitch, has been tested in a series of beam-tests performed with the 6 GeV electron beam of the DESY-II synchrotron in DESY (Hamburg). The detector tracking capabilities have been studied with the aid of a high-precision silicon reference telescope. Results are presented concerning the sensor charge collection properties, detection efficiency and spatial resolution as a function of the operational temperature and of the electron beam energy. The comparison of experimental results with 3-D device simulations performed with the ISE-TCAD package will also be addressed.
