Thermodynamic properties of screened Coulomb balls — •Henning Baumgartner, Alexei Filinov, and Michael Bonitz — Institut für Theoretische Physik und Astrophysik, Leibnizstr. 15, D-24098 Kiel

We present an analysis of the influcence of screening on the stability and melting behavior of spherical dust particle clusters (Coulomb balls) [1]. An explanation of our method to obtain thermodynamic properties and an analytical model [2] for the distance fluctuations and melting behavior of the Coulomb balls is given, which is compared to the Monte-Carlo simulation results. In particular, a modified coupling parameter [2] for screened interaction is presented. Furthermore, the influence of different confinements [3-4] on the melting of the Coulomb ball is discussed.
