Transverse Phase Space Characterization at the Photo Injector Test Facility at DESY in Zeuthen (PITZ) — •Lazar Staykov — lazaraza@ifh.de

The goal of PITZ is to develop and to optimize high brightness electron sources suitable for SASE FEL operation. There is high demand for the beam quality of the electron source. The basic parameter characterizing the beam quality is emittance. The emittance is the volume in the phase space. In this work different methods for characterizing of the transverse phase space of the electron beam in PITZ are evaluated and compared. Extended ASTRA simulations were done in order to evaluate and compare the performance of the quadrupole scan method and the single slit technique for measuring the projected transverse emittance of the electron beam. Furthermore two different approaches for slice emittance measurements were compared. Comparison between different methods for emittance measurements is made, the sources of uncertainty which are relevant to each type of measurement are analyzed.
