Prospects of neutrino triggered ’Target-Of-Opportunity’ observations — •Elisa Bernardini and Markus Ackermann — DESY, Platanenallee 6, 15738 Zeuthen

Many astrophysical sources which are candidates for high-energy neutrino emission are observed in high-energy gamma rays. Some of the sources - like Active Galactic Nuclei - show a tremendous variability in the intensity of the electromagnetic emission. If the gamma rays are produced in hadronic processes, the neutrino flux will be correlated to the gamma ray intensity. This property can be used to significantly reduce the background for searches of a neutrino signal. However, due to the limited field of view of gamma ray telescopes the observation time for individual sources is short and strong flares might be missed. On the other hand neutrino telescopes monitor continuously large parts of the sky. The chances for finding a positive correlation could be increased if the observation of a source in VHE gamma rays is triggered by neutrinos from the AMANDA and IceCube detectors. In this presentation we show the prospects and the technical status of an alert system based on the AMANDA online filtering which could be used for this purpose.
