Search for cascade-like events with the AMANDA detector — •Oxana Tarasova — DESY, Platanenallee 6, 15738 Zeuthen

AMANDA is a high-energy neutrino detector consisting of 677 optical modules installed deep in the antarctic ice at the South Pole. High-energy electron and tau neutrinos coming from the universe can interact with the nuclei of ice producing hadronic and/or electro-magnetic cascades. The Cherenkov light emitted by the charged particles of the cascades within the detector is measured by the optical modules. The advantage of electron and tau neutrino channels compared to muon neutrino charged-current interactions is a low background as well as a better energy resolution.

The concept and the status of the analysis will be presented.
