In order to reduce the different backgrounds in new generation Air Cherenkov Telescopes one can use ultra fast digitization of the Cherenkov signals. This allows one to lower the analysis energy threshold. In addition, it will also provide precise measurements of the timing structure of the Cherenkov pulses, which can increase the efficiency for separating gammas from backgrounds.

A 2 GSamples/s read-out system has been developed using a novel technique of Fiber-Optic Multiplexing. It is planned to replace the current 300 MSamples/s FADC read-out of the MAGIC-I telescope with the new read-out in early 2006. The new data acquisition system of the future MAGIC-II telescope is based upon a low power analog sampler (Domino Ring Sampler) with a sampling frequency ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 GHz. Data are digitized with a 12 bits resolution ADC. The design and performance of both read-out systems will be presented.
