Correlated relativistic electron dynamics in recombination processes — •Zoltán Harman, Ulrich Jentschura, and Christoph Keitel — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, D-69117 Heidelberg

It is well known that in the case of heavy ions, relativistic contributions to the structural properties of many-electron systems play an important role. The study of recombination processes into few-electron systems offers the possibility to explore such effects in a more dynamical setting. We study the resonant recombination mechanism of dielectronic recombination where electron interaction plays a crucial role. A bound electron is excited resonantly by the interaction with a continuum electron, forming an autoionizing state. This step is followed by subsequent radiative relaxation until the ground state of the recombined ion is reached. The effect of electron correlation and configuration mixing on the cross section and the angular distribution of the emitted radiation is investigated. The results are compared with experimental data in the case of KLL dielectronic recombination into He-, Li-, Be- and B-like Hg ions.
