Injection seeding of Nd:YAG ring oscillators for applications in remote sensing — •Sebastian Döring and Martin Ostermeyer — Institut für Physik/Photonik, Am Neuen Palais 10, 14469 Potsdam

A pump laser of a LIDAR-system for water vapour detection in the earth atmosphere is being developed [1]. Differential absorption LIDAR measurements require pulses of high energy and high frequency stability and can be realized in a master oscillator power amplifier system (MOPA).

To achieve this, spectral bandwidths of Δ n ≈ 40MHz and pulse to pulse frequency stabilities of δ n < 1MHz at pulse energies of around 1mJ and repetition rates of up to 1kHz of the Nd:YAG master oscillator are envisaged. The oscillator is injection seeded and complemented by a Pound-Drever-Hall like frequency stabilization scheme.

Furthermore, the oscillator of the MOPA is designed as an unstable ring resonator, since unstable resonators can be realised with excellent beam quality and short resonator length. A short resonator is desired for short pulse lengths of around 10ns.
