Laserdiode pumped solid-state laser systems are exquisitely suited for precision measurement, e.g. as the light source for interferometric gravitational wave detectors such as GEO600 or LIGO. For measurements with quantum-limited sensitivity lasers with high output power and very low intensity noise are required (e.g. 2·10−9/√Hz relative intensity noise at 10Hz for the Advanced LIGO detector). The intrinsic noise of laserdiode pumped (quasi-) monolithic solid-state lasers is already very low, but due to the high specifications it is necessary to reduce the intrinsic noise by means of active stabilisation. We present results of experiments on the stabilisation of the amplitude of Nd:YAG lasers for use in advanced gravitational wave detectors and report on current developments of the experiment.
