Cs-137 Run-off from the Watershed of Lago Maggiore: Measurement and Modeling — •Tatjana Semizhon1,2 and Eckehard Klemt11Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten, Doggenriedstr., D-88250 Weingarten — 2International Sakharov Environmental University, Dolgobrodskaya str. 23, 220009 Minsk, Belarus

Within a larger project analyzing the migration behavior of Cs-137 in tributaries, water and sediment of Lago Maggiore a compartment model of L. Håkanson (Modeling the transport of radionuclides from land to water. Journal of Environmental Radioactivity 73 (2004) pp. 267-284) was applied to the watershed of Lago Maggiore. For this purpose main parameters like average precipitation, soil permeability factor, the seasonal moderator for the water flow in the tributaries, and the percentage of outflow areas had to be determined for different tributaries and for the whole catchment. Several hundred liters of water were sampled and filtered in situ with a Midyia-system for the tributaries Ticino, Toce and Versasca, respectively, at different times of the years 2004 and 2005. Calibrating the model with these data a rather low average Cs-137 inventory in the catchment area of about 3000 Bq/m2 could be determined. Other models describing the activity concentration in lake water and sediment also require an inventory in the catchment area of about 3000 Bq/m2.
