The Pioneer Anomaly — •Claus Lämmerzahl and Hans-Jörg Dittus — ZARM, University of Bremen

The observed blue-shift of the Doppler tracking signal of the Pioneer spacecrafts observed between 20 and 80 AU remained unexplained until now. This blue shift when interpreted as acceleration of the Pioneer spacecrafts towards the Sun is called the Pioneer anomaly. In this talk we discuss the (i) status of this observation, (ii) the relevance of the influence of the cosmological expansion on the physics within the Solar system, (iii) possible explanations within modified gravity theories, and (iv) possible relations to other unexplained phenomena like dark matter, dark energy and the fly-by anomaly. Furthermore, the importance of a new analysis of the complete set of the Pioneer tracking data will be outlined.
