The investigation of the properties of strongly interacting matter in the vicinity of the critical point of the QCD phase diagramm is one of the challenges of the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt. The nonmonotonic behavior of the event-by-event fluctuations of the kaon to pion yield ratio as a function of beam energy was considered as a possible signature of the critical point. The results of simulation show, that with proposed CBM setup the measurement of such fluctuations is feasible if they exceed a level of 2 %.
