Experiments on the electrical conductivity of inert gases have been revisited. Within the linear response theory of partially ionized plasmas [1], the description of electron-atom scattering using experimentally determined transport cross sections leads to a qualitatively improved description. It emphasizes the relevance of the Ramsauer minimum which had been neglected so far when using a polarization potential approach. The traditionally used degeneracy dependent Spitzer factor is critically discussed.

In recent years, noble gas plasmas have also been investigated under the influence of magnetic fields. In this context, the Hall conductivity is considered as a tool for diagnostics of the free electron density, which is otherwise not directly accessible for experimental determination. The linear response theory allows for a consistent investigation of the Hall coefficient and other thermoelectric transport properties. Within this approach, comparison [2] with recent experimental results for the Hall conductivity in partially ionized argon and xenon plasmas [3] is presented.
