Melting criteria for mesoscopic Yukawa crystals — •Henning Baumgartner, Volodymyr Golubnichiy, Alexei Filinov, and Michael Bonitz — Institute for Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, University Kiel, Leibnizstr. 15, 24118 Kiel

Dust crystals in a trap, so called "Yukawa Balls", are of great interest due to the easy observation and study of strong correlation phenomena in experiment[1] and simulation[2]. We analyze finite temperature effects on shell widths, populations[3] and symmetry of mesoscopic clusters with Monte-Carlo simulations. For the transition point different criteria are compared. Relative distance fluctuations, radial and angular fluctuations and Voronoi symmetry parameters are analyzed with respect to their sensitivity to melting in these systems. The critical coupling constants for phase transitions are studied for different screenings and are compared with 2-d finite and macroscopic as well as 3-d[4] results.
