Lessons from loop quantisation of the string — •Robert Helling — School for Engineering and Science, International University Bremen, Bremen
We review parallels and differences between the Fock and loop gravity inspired quantisation of the world sheet theory of the bosonic string. Special attention is paid to the distiction between invariance and covariance of the GNS reference state. The loop approach avoids the Stone-von-Neumann theorem by resorting to discontiniuous representations of the Weyl algebra. We discuss consequences in the example of absorption spectra of harmonic oscillators. This leads to speculations about genaralisations to the loop approach to quantum gravity.
