Radiation Damage and Activation of ILC Positron Source Target — •Andriy Ushakov and Sabine Riemann — DESY Zeuthen

A positron production target for International Linear Collider (ILC) has been studied. A multi-MeV intense photon beam generated in a helical undulator produces polarized positrons in a thin target. In addition to the generation of electron-positron pairs in the target a high intense flux of neutrons is created. The high irradiation causes problems with heating, activation and radiation damage of the target and other positron source components. Calculations of the expected damage in a Ti-6Al-4V alloy target have been performed by combining FLUKA simulations with SPECTER calculations of the displacement cross sections from the energy dependent neutron fluence. The radiation damage and activation of the target have been investigated for different undulator parameters.
