Flare classification in blazar: Maximum Likelihood Blocks for X and Gamma-ray light curves — •Elisa Resconi, Luigi Costamante, and Andreas Gross — Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg

High frequency blazars (HBLs) are among the most powerful and variable Active Galactic Nuclei. The origin of their time evolution is still unknown. Our goal is to characterize in a global way the time behavior of a sample of HBLs and thereby to improve understanding of possible time-pattern and flux states across more wavelengths. We study the long term X- and γ-ray emissions from Mkn 421, Mkn 501 and 1ES 1959+650. The analyzed period covers 10 years of observation from 1996 to 2006 and makes use of data from: All Sky Monitor and Proportional Counter Array on board of RXTE satellite for the X-ray band and Whipple and HEGRA Cherenkov telescope for the γ-ray one. In order to yield the significant variations and suppress the noise fluctuations a method called Maximum Likelihood Blocks has been applied. Given the new statistical method and the 10 years length of ASM data we classify different X-ray flux levels for all the three blazars.
