TeV electron and photon saturation in the cms ecal studies — •Tariq Mahmoud1,2, Barbara Clerbaux2, Sherif Elgammal2, and Pierre Marage21Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, D-85748 Garching, Germany — 2IIHE, Universite Libre du Bruxelles, Bruxelles Belgium

One of the main programs of the CMS experiment is the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular the discovery of heavy resonances which subsequently decay into very energetic particles. The electron and photon decay channels are particularly promising, due to the excellent performance of the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL). It is known, however, that the ECAL readout electronics saturates at about 1.7 TeV in the barrel, and 3.0 TeV in the endcaps. Very high energy electromagnetic showers which deposit this much energy in a single crystal thus need to be reconstructed in a way that takes account of this saturation. This contribution presents the techniques developed by the Brussels CMS-group to correct for the saturation.
