Stochastic model for mitochondria transport along the cytoskeleton — •Thomas Sokolowski and Heiko Rieger — Theoretische Physik, Universität des Saarlandes, PF 151150, D-66041 Saarbrücken

Inside an eukaryotic cell mitochondria master a variety of vital tasks: They keep up the production of ATP, thus providing the energetic base for cellular processes, regulate the programmed cell death and act as strongly dynamic Ca2+ buffers, just to name a few of its functions. In the last years it became evident that the mitochondria distribution and the Ca2+ concentration influence themselves mutually. Based on previous approaches, we develop a stochastic model for the intracellular organelle transport processes including the dynamics of the cytoskeleton and various patterns of transport. We investigate the impact of different cell geometries and the variation of cytoskeleton parameters on the distribution of the mitochondria.
