Characterization of atmospheres of extrasolar terrestrial planets I: Models and parameter studies — •Philip von Paris1, Lee Grenfell1, Pascal Hedelt1, Heike Rauer1,2, and Barbara Stracke11Institut für Planetenforschung, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. During the next few years, the discovery of Earth-like, rocky exoplanets is expected by ground-based observations and satellite missions such as CoRoT and Kepler. Planned (e.g., Darwin) space missions will be able to provide spectral information of the atmospheres of these planets.

Theoretical investigations of the atmospheres of terrestrial planets and their spectral characteristics lead to the identification of potentially interesting spectral bands and features which should be considered when designing the missions.

The modeling of the atmospheres of up to now hypothetical terrestrial planets enables us to cover a wide range of planetary parameters and probe possible planet scenarios (e.g., size and age of planet, central star type, atmospheric composition, surface pressure). The calculation of synthetic spectra, based on the modeling results, is useful information for future measurement campaigns.

We will present our atmospheric models and a sensitivity study performed with these models. In this study, we varied several key planetary parameters and investigated the impact on surface conditions and atmospheric structure.
