Study of the beam polarization at the ILC using W+W production — •Ivan Marchesini, Philip Bechtle, Jenny List, and Jörgen Samson — DESY, Notkestraße 85, D-22607 Hamburg, Germany

The ILC will be an electron-positron linear collider, operating at energies from 500 GeV up to 1 TeV. This accelerator, complementary to the LHC at CERN, will allow various measurements of new physics, such as Supersymmetry. It will also allow detailed investigations of the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, involving Higgs particles and the couplings of Gauge bosons.

The knowledge of the beams polarization is important for many measurements, with an aimed level of precision better than 0.2%. External polarimeters can measure the polarization on very short timescale, but they need to be calibrated using a physics process. For example, the beam optic might change the polarization between the polarimeter and the beams interaction point. Due to the 100% left-handed coupling of the W in the Standard Model, the t-channel cross-section of the W+W production fits perfectly the purpose of the polarization calibration, thanks also to its high cross section.

This talk will present the necessary steps for performing the analysis and using it for the optimization of the Linear Collider Detector concept, using fully simulated Monte-Carlo Events.
