Effect of IR and UV light on naked Germanium detectorIris Abt, Kevin Kröninger, •Xiang Liu, Bela Majorovits, and Erin O’Sullivan for the GERDA collaboration — Max-Planck-Institut für Physik, Föhringer Ring 6, 80805 München

The GERDA experiment will use naked Germanium detectors submerged directly into liquid Argon (LAr) to search for Oνββ of 76Ge. The detectors may be exposed to small fluxes of IR radiation from surfaces of the experimental setup at room temerature. It is thus crucial to quantify how Germanium detectors react to IR and UV light.

A naked n-type HPGe detector was submerged directly into liquid Nitrogen. The detector was exposed to radiation of different wavelengths, including 360nm, 380nm, 400nm, 1100nm and 1550nm. The induced leakage current and energy resolution at different bias voltages were measured. Results on the wavelength and bias violtage dependencies of the leakage current will be presented and discussed.
