Atmospheric Consequences of Particle Precipitation: a 3D Model and its Applications — •May-Britt Kallenrode — FB Physik, Universität Osnabrück, Osnabrück, Deutschland

The Atmospheric Ionization Module OSnabrück (AIMOS) calculates atmospheric ionization from the stratosphere to the thermosphere on a three-dimensional grid based on particle flux measurements by GOES and POES satellites. The model considers different particle populations (magnetospheric and solar) and species (electrons, protons, alphas) as well as the spatial dependence of particle precipitation and its variation with geomagnetic activity. The model, some results as well as consequences for modeling atmospheric chemistry will be discussed.
