Technical Realization of a Magnetic Field Topology Suitable for a Simulation of Solar Flares — •Holger Stein, Jan Tenfelde, and Henning Soltwisch — Ruhr University Bochum, Bochum, Germany

Solar flares show periods of long term stability (ranging from days up to weeks), while the expansion into space after becoming unstable occurs on much shorter timescales. Titov and Démoulin [1] proposed a model configuration of magnetic flux surfaces, which successfully reproduces the evolution of certain flare structures observed on the solar surface.
In the frame of this work, the possibility of scaling down the model assumptions to laboratory experiment dimensions is investigated. An electrode design is proposed being consistent with the boundary conditions implied by the model. The experimental realization of the magnetic field structure is compared to model calculations following the approach of Titov and Démoulin.
