Report on a new facility for fundamental experiments with Ultra-Cold-Neutrons (UCN) in Munich — •Erwin Gutsmiedl1, Hartmut Abele1, Igor Altarev1, Manfred Daum2, Beatrice Franke1, Andreas Frei1, Joachim Hartmann1, Stefan Materne1, Axel Müller1, Rüdiger Picker1, Stephan Paul1, Klaus Schreckenbach1, Rainer Stoepler1, and Christian Tietze11Physik Department, Technische Universität — 2Paul Scherrer Institut, CH-3052 Villingen,

At the neutron source FRM II in Munich a new lab for production of UCN will be installed within the next three years. This facility will deliver UCN densities up to 104 UCN cm−3 for precise fundamental low energy experiments like the lifetime τ n of the free neutron (δ τ n <0.1s), determining a possible finite electric dipole moment of the neutron with a precision of 10−28 e cm and also investigations on the quantum states of neutron in a gravitational field. The talk will give an overview on the status of the design and construction of the new UCN lab and the planed experiments with UCN. This work is supported by MLL, DFG and the Cluster of Excellence EXC 153.
