Monte Carlo generators for the LHC — •Malgorzata Worek — Bergische Universitaet Wuppertal, Fachbereich C Physik, Gaussstr. 20,D-42097 Wuppertal, Germany

The structure of events in high energy collisions is not only complex but also impossible to predict from first principles. Monte Carlo event generators allow the problem to be subdivided into more manageable pieces, some of which can be described by perturbation theory supplied by resummation of certain dominant effects, while others require phenomenological models with parameters tuned to data.

In this review the state of the art of the Monte Carlo tools for high energy hadronic collisions will be presented with particular emphasis on recent theoretical developments and on the requirements posed by the LHC physics program.
