Inclined air showers - those arriving at ground with a zenith angle θ > 60∘ - are characterised by a dominant muonic component at ground, which is accompanied by an electromagnetic “halo” produced mainly by muon decay and muon interactions. By means of Monte Carlo simulations, we give a full characterisation of the signal induced by the electromagnetic component of inclined showers in water-Cherenkov tanks of the Pierre Auger Observatory as a function of the primary energy and mass, as well as hadronic model assumed in the simulations. We also investigate the effect of intrinsic shower-to-shower fluctuations in the signal components.
