Conformal Symmetry in the Minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model — •Martin Holthausen — Max-Planck-Institute für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg, Deutschland

Even though conformal symmetry is anomalous, there exist arguments that its protective features with respect to quantum corrections are not completely destroyed. If correct, it would imply the absence of quadratic divergences and may lead to new solutions of the hierarchy problem. However, within the Standard Model, conformal symmetry contradicts experimental data. Therefore, the Standard Model will have to be extended, if conformal symmetry ought to solve the hierarchy problem. One appealing extension is the minimal left-right symmetric model since parity is broken only spontaneously and massive neutrinos are predicted. We discuss symmetry breaking in the minimal conformally invariant left-right symmetric model including a renormalization group discussion, demonstrate that parity is broken in a large fraction of parameter space and point out how to obtain a viable fermion mass spectrum.
