Combined measurement of triple gauge boson couplings and polarization at the ILC using the W+W production — •Ivan Marchesini, Philip Bechtle, and Wolfgang Ehrenfeld — DESY, Notkestraße 85, D-22607 Hamburg, Germany

The International Linear Collider (ILC) will be a linear accelerator, designed to collide polarized electrons and positrons at center of mass energies up to 500 GeV, with a later upgrade to 1 TeV. This collider, complementary to the LHC at CERN, will be a precision machine, allowing detailed measurements of new physics and investigations of the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism.

In order to fully exploit the ILC physics potential, the knowledge of the beam polarization is required with very high precision. Dedicated polarimeters will be used to measure the polarization on a bunch-by-bunch basis, but the absolute calibration of the average luminosity-weighted polarization at the interaction point can only be achieved using a physics process. Due to its sensitivity to the polarization and its high cross-section, the W+W production fits perfectly this purpose.

The W-pair production is sensitive as well to anomalous Triple Gauge Couplings (TGCs), that might occur due to loop corrections to the SM tree-level diagrams or contributions of new physics. Exploiting common observables, which describe the angular distribution of the W-pair production, a combined measurement of polarization and TGCs has been developed. A second, backup, technique to measure the polarization only, relying on the total cross-section information, will be also presented.
