The production of single top at the LHC is expected to be substantial, approximately one third of the top-pair production cross section. However, the final states are difficult to distinguish from Standard Model background and therefore a careful optimization of the object selection and topological cuts is needed. Once a statistically significant data sample has been collected, this optimization will be calibrated with data. We present methods and results of this optimization for an integrated luminosity of 100 pb−1 for ATLAS.
