High Precision Polarimetry for an EDM Search on the Deuteron — •Gerco Onderwater1, Marlene da Silva1, Duurtjohan van der Hoek1, Klaus Jungmann1, Wilbert Kruithof1, Oscar Versolato1, Hans Wilschut1, Edward Stephenson2, and Astrid Imig31KVI and University of Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands — 2IUCF, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, USA — 3Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY, USA

A new technique based an a magnetic storage ring is being developped to search for an EDM on charged particles such as the deuteron and proton. An increase in the vertical polarization signals a non-zero EDM. Optimal sensitivity is obtained by continuously monitoring the beam polarization with high statistical and systematic precision.

A deuteron polarimeter concept based on slow extraction onto an aperture-limiting thick-walled carbon tube target was tested at COSY-Juelich and showed very high efficiency. Various systematic error sources were explored as well. In-depth systematic error studies were performed at KVI-Groningen, where also the necessary cross section and analyzing power data were previously measured.
