The phonon dispersion relations in MnSi were measured using inelastic neutron scattering. At the same time, calculations of the lattice dynamics of MnSi were carried out in the framework of the density-functional theory using both the local-density and the generalized gradient approximations. The calculations match most of the phonon modes in the frequency range up to 40 meV, if they are performed using the experimental lattice constant. Spin-polarized calculations for ferromagnetic ground states result in subtle modifications of the dispersion curves, which further improve the description, in particular, for the acoustic branches.
