Investigation of light-assisted collisions of 40Ca — •Oliver Appel, Max Kahmann, Stephan Schulz, Sebastian Kraft, Fritz Riehle, and Uwe Sterr — Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Bundesallee 100, 38116 Braunschweig

Quantum degenerate Calcium is an interesting candidate for atom interferometry and optical Feshbach resonances. Therefore it is necessary to investigate collisions involving at least one excited atom. We use photoassociation spectroscopy to search for bound molecular states near the 1S0-3P1 asymptote. By optically coupling these bound states to the ground state we will be able to generate an optical Feshbach resonance. In contrast to magnetic Feshbach resonances these can be used to modify the scattering length on very small length scales.

To further understand collisions of unbound 3P atoms we excite into the 3P1 and 3P0 states and study the coherence loss. The excitation to the long-lived 3P0 state demands for an ultranarrow laser, which is being set up.

In this poster we will report on the current status of the experiment. Our work is supported by the excellence cluster QUEST.
