Study of the Reference Channel B+JK+ for the Search of the Rare Decay Bs → µµ in ATLASPeter Buchholz, •Bakul Gaur, Kai Grybel, Valentin Sipica, and Wolfgang Walkowiak — University of Siegen

The decay of Bs → µ+µ is strongly suppressed in the Standard Model (SM). SM extensions, however, predict its branching fraction enhanced by several orders of magnitude higher than the SM prediction (∼ 3.6 · 10−9). Thus, Bs → µµ is an interesting channel for discovering New Physics at the LHC.

The measurement of the branching fraction of Bs → µ+µ requires a good understanding of acceptances and selection efficiencies. It is measured relative to a reference channel, B+JK+, in order to cancel out most systematic uncertainties. The status of the study of the reference channel with pp collision data at √s=7 TeV is presented.
