Moon shadow observation by IceCube with an unbinned likelihood approach — •Jan Blumenthal, David Boersma, and Christopher Wiebusch — III. Physikalisches Institut, RWTH Aachen, D-52056 Aachen

The observation of a deficit of cosmic rays from the direction of the Moon is an important experimental verification of the absolute pointing accuracy of the IceCube detector and the angular resolution of the reconstruction methods. This *Moon shadow* in the down-going muon flux has been observed with high statistical significance of more than 10 sigma in an initial analysis based on a binned counting approach. An unbinned maximum likelihood method was developed to reconstruct the shape and the position of this shadow more precisely. The method and the results obtained from the configuration of IceCube with 59 strings are presented.
