Digital Data Acquisition Using XIA’s DGF-4C Module — •Simon Pickstone, Vera Derya, Michael Elvers, Janis Endres, Andreas Hennig, Carolin Küppersbusch, Lars Netterdon, Anne Sauerwein, Friederike Schlüter, Mark Spieker, and Andreas Zilges — Institut für Kernphysik, Universität zu Köln

The data acquisition (DAQ) system of the detector array HORUS at the Institute for Nuclear Physics of the University of Cologne is currently updated to improve the quality of measurements. Instead of using analog DAQ techniques to obtain gamma and particle spectra, the 80MHz Multichannel Digital Gamma Finder (DGF-4C) by XIA, which samples the preamplifier signal right away, is set up. In comparison to the former, the latter allows more sophisticated add-back and better energy resolution at high rates. Additionally, coincidence conditions can be set internally, reducing the complexity of the circuit. This will enhance the ability to perform nuclear physics experiments. The device has been tested using α and γ sources yielding comparable energy resolution with respect to the former analog DAQ system. The current status and some results of the performed tests are presented.
Supported by the DFG (ZI 510/4-1 and ZI 510/5-1) and by the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy.
