Fabrication of nanostructures for detecting single nanoparticles using the meniscus-force-method — •Daniela Schön, Kathrin Kroth, Sabrina Darmawi, and Peter J. Klar — I. Physikalisches Institut, Justus-Liebig-Universität,

We present an array of holes that can be used for separating and arranging nanoparticles. The structure is created on a glass substrate via electron beam lithography (EBL), using PMMA as resist. In order to remove electrostatic charges during the EBL, a conductive polymer is applied on top of the PMMA. By creating a cavity array with lateral and vertical dimensions in the sub-micrometer range, particles with diameters smaller than 100 nm can be separated. A drop of a solution containing nanoparticles, such as TiO2, CaO or ZnO, can be applied on top of the structure. During the evaporation of the drop the particles are drawn into the cavities by the meniscus-force. The structure containing the separated nanoparticles can be investigated by SEM and Raman imaging.
